I had hoped for night photography, but the stars had been swallowed by clouds. Disappointment lingered in my steps as I wandered through Letchworth Gorge, a place that had always mesmerized me. The canyon walls stood tall, rugged, and imposing, shrouded in shadow. The river below whispered faintly, like it was teasing me for missing my chance to capture the night.
I was alone now, far from the crowd that lingered by the parking lot. Just as I was about to give up and put the camera away, the first hint of dawn crept over the horizon. The sun rose timidly, its rays just brushing the tops of the trees, casting them in a fiery glow of oranges, reds, and golds. Suddenly, the entire gorge lit up in a way I had never seen before. The pale rock cliffs blazed in the early light, their white stone glowing against the deep greens and yellows of the forest.
My heart raced. I didn’t have time to think. Instinct took over. I moved quickly away from the others, finding a spot with a clear view, my hands fumbling with my camera. No tripod, no perfect setup—just raw determination and a gut feeling. I framed the shot, my fingers numb in the cool morning air.
